Why Water?
We’ve all heard how important water is for our health, but, what exactly about it makes it so critical? Honestly, if we listed out each and every benefit, this blog would never end! So, we’ve compiled a list of what we believe are the most important reasons to stay hydrated – check it out below!
Water makes up 60% of the human body and 90% of its blood. Every cell and organ in your body is composed of and in need of water. Four to ten percent of your body’s water gets replaced every day with “fresh” water. This is needed because we lose water daily through perspiration, urine, and exhaling vapors as we breathe. So what exactly does our body need all this water for?
It helps create saliva which is essential for breaking down food and keeping your mouth healthy.
- It regulates your body temperature. We lose water through our sweat which helps keep our body cool. It is important to replenish those liquids so that we don’t overheat.
- It will help maximize your physical performance. Staying hydrated during physical activity can help improve your strength, power and endurance.
- It aids in digestion. Drinking water before, during and after a meal will help your body break down the food you eat more easily. This helps digest your food properly and get the most out of your meals.
- It helps with nutrient absorption. Water helps dissolve the vitamins, minerals and other nutrients we get from our food.
- It can prevent illness. Drinking enough water can help prevent constipation, kidney stones, urinary tract infection, hypertension as well as help your overall immune system.
- It helps boost energy and weight loss. Drinking water can help activate your metabolism which has been associated with a positive impact on energy levels and shedding a couple extra pounds.
- It keeps your brain at its best. Not drinking enough water can negatively impact your focus, alertness and short-term memory.
- It helps improve mood. Dehydration may cause fatigue, confusion and even anxiety.
- It can improve your complexion. Drinking enough water will keep your skin hydrated and may promote collagen production.
Given all of these benefits of staying hydrated, it’s no wonder Moxifit plans recommend a minimum of 64 ounces of water a day! It’s also important to remember to increase your water intake even more on warm summer days or while you’re exercising. Stay hydrated and stay healthy!
