Exercise is Great, but You Still Need a Healthy Diet

We keep hearing it, and we’ve GOT to set the record straight on this one! Healthy living is NOT as simple as calories in and calories out. Be honest. Have you ever justified an unhealthy food choice with, “I’ve worked out today, so it’s fine”? Most of us have, but that doesn’t make it right!

By choosing to fill your body with the wrong fuel, you’re setting yourself up for a breakdown:

  • Lack of nutrients – Even if an unhealthy snack or meal temporarily makes your belly feel full, you will not have gained the essential vitamins and minerals your body needs to thrive. Nutritional deficiencies can lead to a slew of health issues including problems with digestion, bone growth, and even dementia.
  • Lack of energy – Without the right mix of nutrients in your diet, your body is likely to experience fatigue, making it really difficult to achieve your daily tasks and long-term goals! Fried foods, processed grains, coffee, and alcohol can plummet your energy levels, so have them sparingly (especially if your to-do list is a mile long).
  • Life-long impact – Over half of Americans 65 and older have multiple chronic health conditions. Whoa! Healthy eating is one way to curb these issues and aid your body in healthy aging.

If you’re focusing solely on calories, odds are you also put a lot of weight (pun intended) into the number on your bathroom scale. For maximum impact and sustainable results, try shifting your focus to healthy ranges across the board, not just your weight. Also, we know to sustain weight loss and create a healthier life, you must begin to change not only your actions but also your thoughts.
