Celebrate YOU, Not FOOD

Woo-hoo! You’ve lost some weight! You’re feeling good! Now what?

You may feel like now is the perfect time to grab a drink with old friends or indulge in a five-star meal…It’s time to celebrate, right?! True enough; you deserve to applaud your hard word and the results, but is self-sabotage really the best way to do it? You don’t want to see the scale going back in time and reflecting old health habits you worked so hard erase. So, how can you celebrate yourself without using food as a focal point?

Instead of indulging with food and drink, give yourself something to look forward to during your weight loss journey. Make note of important milestones you want to work toward. Have you lost your first 5, 10, 20 pounds? Great! It’s important to reward yourself for the hard work you’ve put into your transformation. Just make sure that these rewards are pushing you toward your goals and not pulling you farther from them. Set goals with non-food rewards, and schedule them throughout your journey. Make sure you feel good about your body and mind as they both continue to grow and transform. Some non-food rewards include:

  • Buying a new outfit
  • Getting a massage 
  • Going to see a movie

One of our favorite ways to reward a big accomplishment is through experiences. Don’t always feel like you have to spend money on something in order to feel the value. Time is just as precious and just as rewarding. Some examples include:

  • An art date with a friend
  • A weekend getaway 
  • Time spent with family 
  • Enrolling in a cooking class
  • Quality alone time

Don’t feel guilty about taking time for yourself after achieving a big accomplishment. Take time to thank yourself for all of the work you have put in and all of the work you continue to do. Use these rewards to drive you forward and keep up your positive momentum!
